The W.A.R.A. Fall Shootout will feature a Western Art Gallery, Art Rodeo Competition and Art Booths.
The gallery and competition stage will be in the library of Wasatch High School. Rodeo Competitions will be held on a small stage right inside the art gallery. There will also be various performers on this stage throughout the days when the rodeo competitions are not being held. (This should get even more traffic through the art gallery than last year – and bring in some celebrity performers!). It’s going to be a fun filled event with a lot of people. The crowd will experience Western Art in a way they’ve never seen before.
Attendance is expected to exceed 20,000 at this years event.
The Western Art Gallery
The Western Art Gallery will feature Western Artists including sculptors, carvers, painters, pencil artists, photographers and more. It will be set up in the Library of Wasatch High School beginning at 3:00 on Thursday, November 1st. The Art Gallery will open to the public as soon as we are ready – most likely about 6:00 p.m. Artists will each be assigned 10′ of space to display their artwork. Flatwork will be displayed on grid provided by the W.A.R.A. (6′ in height) and 3d artists works will be displayed on tables throughout the library (approx. 10′). You may display as many items as you wish in your allotted space.
The Art Rodeo Competition
Artists displaying in the W.A.R.A. Art Gallery may choose to compete in the Art Rodeo Competition Rounds. There is no additional charge to compete. Artists are not required to compete, this is optional. However, all entries must meet the criteria in the Official W.A.R.A. Rules.
- All artists will compete in one category.
- All Judging will be based on the Principles of Art.
- Three judges will each score the piece between 1 and 33 points. The scores will be combined for the final score with the highest possible score being 99 points.
- Each contestant may compete with one work of art in each Go Round of Competition.
- The highest 4 scores in the First and Second Go Rounds will advance to the Final Go Round.
- Artists may only advance to the Final Go Round with their highest scoring piece.
- 8 qualifying artists will compete in the Final Go Round with a different piece than what they showed in the previous Go Rounds.
- Each contestants preliminary go round score will be combined with their Final Go Round score, giving them a combined score.
- Prize money will be paid to the top 4 artists finishing with the highest combined scores. (Prize money is only paid on Combined Score, no prize money is paid in the preliminary Go Rounds)
- First Place – $500
- Second Place – $300
- Third Place – $150
- Fourth Place – $75
This event will be a fun, exciting and educational event for those that choose to participate. There will be tons of people to enjoy the artwork and unmatched entertainment. We are excited to have the the stage inside the WARA Gallery and the different performers throughout the event. This should draw a lot of people inside the gallery where they will experience some great Western Artwork.
Space is very limited at this event – Entries will close without notice when the event is full or on Sept. 30, 2012 .
A limited number of booth space is available. This space is in the hallway of Wasatch High School at the entrance to one of the main auditoriums. Booth space is 10′ along one side of the hallway and the cost is $75. Booth space will be assigned on a first come basis.
The competition will include 2 Go Rounds and 1 Championship Round. All mediums will compete combined into one competition. Contestants may only qualify with their highest score in either round. The highest eight scores will qualify for the final round. Four places will be paid in the Final Go Round. Those that choose to compete will enter 1 work of art in each go round, in addition to their alternate piece. Their alternate piece will compete in the Championship Go Round, should they qualify.
Artists participation in the Rodeo Competition is optional. You may participate in the Art Gallery without competing.
All Sales transactions will be processed and commissioned by the Western Art Rodeo Association. There will be a 20% commission on all sales of artwork at the event. The W.A.R.A. will be processing credit cards during the event for all artwork sales transactions.
Artists will be paid by Check from the W.A.R.A. within 5 business days of the close of the event using the following formula:
Gross Sale Amount – 20% W.A.R.A. Commission – Sales Tax = Net to Artist
Event Dates and Times
November 1st – 3rd 2012.
Gallery set up will be Thursday, November 1st beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The Gallery will be open Thursday Evening (November 1st) from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. then on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Artists or an official representative must be present during these hours.
Western Art Rodeo (Competition) Times
First Go Round – Friday, November 2 – 1:30 p.m.
Second Go Round – Friday, November 2 – 5:00 p.m.
Championship Go Round – Saturday, November 3 – 3:00 p.m.
Awards presentation will follow the Championship Go Round.
Cost to Enter
- Display/Entry fee is $200 per artist. (whether you choose to compete or not)

W.A.R.A. events are designed to keep costs at a minimum for the artists. You do not need to submit pictures of your artwork for approval. Required items include:
- 1 Artist Profile Photo
- A Short Artist Bio (about 50 words)

Do I have to be a W.A.R.A. Member?
Membership is not required to participate in the Fall Shootout Western Art Rodeo, Show and Sale.
This is a W.A.R.A. Sanctioned Event. Points earned at this event will count towards the W.A.R.A. World Standings.
