Title:
America's Daughter

Author:
Monte Moore

Category:
Wet Medium

Description:
This is portrait of a young Sacajawea painted on a native crafted leather 'spirit' or 'medicine' shield. Sacajawea is the most memorialized woman in U.S. history in statuary and tributes and this my addition to that long line of artist's interpretations. Since there are no actual photos of her, her likeness is pure conjecture. This is what I envision a young Lakotan Sacajawea could have looked like in her teens prior to going on the arduous Lewis and Clark Expedition. This piece is acrylics on leather, and finished with feathers, turquoise and a concho to make the original a true one of a kind piece of artwork.
