Title:
Smooth Sailin'

Author:

Category:
Dry Medium

Description:
Stipple on Elk Hide Drum, framed in carved Cherry. This piece is approximately 5.5' in diameter. Smooth Sailin' was a commissioned piece done to symbolize the client's life journey. As I was using a Rapidograph pen to stipple the hide drum, outside of my window came a woodpecker. He sat on the post and as I tapped out a sound on the drum with the pen, the woodpecker wood peck the post. He came several times throughout the course of this project. I stretched the drum, did the stipple, and carved the frame. This project was a blast.

I would love to see this piece in person. After reading the description I don't think a photo can do it justice. The drawing or the carving would be stunning on their own but combined they are incredible.
