FAQ’s

“Ace” Answers

How do I become eligible to be in "Ace"?

Submit an entry into any Online Western Art Rodeo competition.

Will Everyone that Enters be Published in "Ace"?

No. The submissions published in “Ace” are the best works of art selected by the WARA judging staff throughout all qualifying events.

It’s really that simple. Not everyone will get in. However, everyone will be promoted through the competitions. Not getting selected for the annual is always one of the risks of participating. We try to put together a panel of judges each year which reflects a wide variety of tastes, and experiences so that no one school of thought dominates.

Online Western Art Rodeo Event Answers

Is the Call For Entry for an Online Art Rodeo or "Ace"?

Both. There is always an Online Western Art Rodeo accepting entries. All entries are eligible for inclusion in “Ace”.

Why do you charge entry fees?

Unfortunately, nothing in life is free. The entry fee helps to off-set the escalating expense of operating the association and promoting western art and artists. We are committed to offering the best promotion for the price anywhere. The WARA is very much a co-operative effort, with the western art community joining together to make this high-profile showcase possible.

What qualifies as "Western Art"

WARA strives to maintain the same standards in keeping with the tradition and perpetuate the memory and culture of the Old West. We are dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the American West and the Life of the American Cowboy.  The artwork entered should reflect our missionWestern Art is not limited to cowboys and Native American subject matter but rather encompasses a large range of subject matter. From the earliest pioneers, explorers, mountain men, homesteading, etc. to western wildlife and landscapes. These subjects are all vital to our historic and present day view of culture and heritage. The intentions are not to discriminate but rather to promote the quality of art, celebrating mans ability to create, not merely what is depicted.

How is the Artwork judged?

All works are to be judged by the Official WARA Judging Staff. WARA Judges are selected for their impeccable knowledge and integrity. All W.A.R.A. judges will be approved and certified by W.A.R.A. to insure total impartiality.

All works are to be judged on Fine Art principles as they apply to the category. Judging which include but are not limited to Anatomy, Authenticity, Balance, Color, Composition, Creativity, Depth, Design, Drawing Skill, Execution, Idea Concept, Lighting, Movement, Presentation, Technique, Title and Value.

Traditional Art judging is explained in the rules of each competition.

Does the Public Vote determine the Winners?

The public voting determines the winner of the “People’s Choice” award only.  The WARA Judges determine which pieces are awarded World Standing points and which pieces are selected for inclusion in “Ace”.

How many Entries should I submit?

That’s up to you. It really depends on your body or work.

Every entry into every competition receives promotion and become eligible for inclusion in “Ace”.

The top 8 scoring artists in each category are awarded points towards competing in the World Finals. (must be a WARA member)

The more quality artwork you enter, the more your artwork is promoted and the more chances you have to gain points and be published in “Ace”.

Why is it called Art Sport?

The series of events is a sport. Each entry has the potential to be published in “Ace”, however, there is also a points system where W.A.R.A. members accumulate points towards competing at the world finals. (the idea is based around how the PRCA works)

What are World Standings Points?

World Standings points are what makes “The Art Sport”.

The top 20 WARA members in each Western Art Rodeo are awarded world standing points.

The amount of points each member receives depends on their placing in the category.

The top 20 points earners in each category are invited to compete at the World Finals for the year. (Just like the PRCA circuit)

The World Finals is the big Western Art Rodeo for the year.  The World Finals will be the best artists competing for the title of “World Champion”.

What are the World Finals?

The World Finals Western Art Rodeo is the year-end finale where the top points earners of the year will compete for the world title in their event(s). This is our way of crowning the best of the best in the industry. We feel that this is legitimized by the fact that our organization does not discriminate against anyone.

Any artist that wishes to become a member of W.A.R.A. and compete may apply to do so.

We feel that the judging structure also legitimizes the concept.

Our vision is that art rodeo fans will gather to witness and be a part of this history-making event, and to also cheer on their favorite artist(s) to celebrate in their glory, this makes this finale the most exciting event in the art industry.

Can I enter the same piece twice?

Each work of art may be entered once into a qualifying event and once in the World Finals for that year.

Example: If you enter a piece into the 2018 New Year Classic, it will not be eligible for entry again until the World Championship.

Example 2: If you entered a piece into the 2017 November Harvest, it is not eligible until the 2018 World Championship event due to the 2017 events being carried over into the 2018 points standings and World Championships.

Is there a limit to the number of pieces I can enter?

No. Artists can enter as many pieces in as many categories as they choose.

All entries will be considered for “Ace” and promoted. However,  only the top scoring entry in each category will be awarded World Standing Points.
